Growing up in a split family there were always excuses on why I couldn?t do things. I learned very quickly that what money there was, was for the roof over our heads. There were times I would be left alone to cook my own creations while my mom had to be elsewhere.

As this carried on, I still watched our friends join teams, showed off their new Puma Cleats or the new baseball glove they could afford. Groups like Scouting or Cadets became the only groups I could afford to attend for which I will be forever grateful.

It was a different time back then but the root of the problem is still here today and magnified.

What a single parent could afford
it now takes two. Sometimes that isn?t even enough.

Many parents work throughout the day so they can be home with their kids after school. In some duel income households one member of the family may still have to limit their family time to cover financial obligations.

Many single parents don?t even have that luxury.

When a large ticket purchase is made regardless if it was by need or want there is always more to it than the sticker price. Taxes. Delivery. A personal activity may need to be re-evaluated. Lost wages, having to be home to receive it.

Taking a day off for family events or school closures adds to this financial struggle but is necessary. Taking a day off to await a delivery is further financial strain and even time or activity decisions have to be made.
