Level 1 - Seasoned Rider Update Course
This course is designed for the rider with several years under your belt. You may not have taken any professional training and are now realizing that things have changed a lot since you first started riding. This course will add to your existing knowledge and skills and help you become a safer rider on toady's roads and highways.
The classroom discussions will cover : what has changed
old "truths" that can kill you
new truths that can save you
two different kinds of crashes and how to prevent them
three potentially fatal basic riding mistakes you are probably making now
the "Smith System" and "see-think-do" hazard detection and avoidance.
It will introduce you to things like threshold braking
push steering
head-eye placement
slow speed riding using your friction zone and brake drag
braking in a corner
correct lines through a corner
swerving to avoid a surprise object
slow and higher speed slaloms.
About 90 minutes classroom time and 4 hours on the range. Cost $200.
Level 2 - Professional Level Advanced Riding
This is what we call our most advanced course. It requires you to have and begin, at the skill levels developed in the SRUC. It truly IS an advanced course.
The range work consists of low speed, tight turns, precise bike positioning, use of clutch and rear brake to allow you to balance the bike at very slow speeds. The cone paterns are actual Police qualification setups. We have taken skill elements from advanced riding courses taught by Law Enforcement professionals and let you develop towards their goals.
We also include threshold braking, push steering and quick decision making. You will also learn the safest way to ride corners and the proper line to take to help straighten them out and make them more fun. It is an aggressive form of pro-active riding that requires concentration, commitment and continuing practice. We won't expect you to reach their riding levels but we will show you how to do them, so you can expand your own riding envelope.
This will be all practical teaching with an expected range time of 4 to 5 hours. Cost $200.
Courses go ahead rain or shine, just like when we ride in the real world.
Approved helmet, gloves, eye protection, gloves, jacket/long sleeves and over-the-ankle footwear are required.
Individual one-on-one training arranged to fit your schedule. We can schedule week nights, week days or some weekends.

ABOUT DAVE HAY - CHIEF RIDING INSTRUCTOR
I retired from RCMP Traffic Services in 2009 after a total of 28 years with the Force. I have been a Police motorcycle rider since 1993 and have been riding motorcycles since 1963. I was a Senior Instructor for the RCMP Police Motorcycle course and taught it in British Columbia and New Brunswick, teaching both students and new Instructors. My Police training includes Crash Investigation and Car and Motorcycle Advanced Police Driver courses.
I'm certified and licensed as a Class 5,6,7, 8 and GLP Instructor by the Province of B.C. and have been teaching New Rider courses for three different local Riding Schools. I also teach these advanced courses through their facilities as well.
I have acted as Instructor, Trainer and Consultant for Members of the RCMP in BC and New Brunswick, plus..Victoria, Saanich, Oak Bay, West Vancouver, Abbotsford, Saint John, Fredericton and Halifax Police Departments.
I am the former National Director (Canada) of Rider Education for the Gold Wing Road Riders Association and taught Rider Education courses and seminars in Canada and the United States for them. I have also designed and presented numerous motorcycle safety seminars in both countries.
I used to hold a Racing License and have road raced, drag raced and moto-crossed in the past. My riding has taken me as far afield as Australia and the Isle Of Man TT races. My 35 plus past bikes have ranged from a Honda 50, Ducati 750 Sport, through Harleys and all the way to Gold Wings and I rode Harley Road King Police specials on duty for 16 years.
My many awards include Educator of the Year and Meritorious Service Award for GWRRA and The Chiefs of Police Traffic Safety Committee Award of Excellence for Traffic Safety Education. This project, which focused on education and rider training, resulted in a 58% decrease in motorcycle fatal crashes in one season. I have devoted my riding career to educating and training riders to be the safest they can be on the road.
I have been deemed an "expert" in the field of motorcycle safety and riding by the Supreme Court of B.C. and have given expert testimony in court on these subjects.
